About
Who is Federico Calvani.
I fell in love with photography almost by chance on november 2016, when I bought my first digital reflex, a Pentax Ks-2, under the insistence of a friend of mine who believed I had a natural tendency to use the camera.
I’ve never seen myself as a photographer nor I’ve ever believed to have any artistic ability, by considering my scientific education during high school and college, and a vision of the world even too much mechanistic that often weaves together with my shoots.
Before making a job out of it, photography was a simple mean to escape from reality, and sometimes an attempt to pull beauty out of a landscape, a tool, a subject. I was swinging between an introspective approach and the expression of what I sensed around me.
I therefore comprehended that I could have used this simple tool to communicate and express myself.
In 2020 I’ve been contacted to represent the Pentax brand as an ambassador.
The major source of inspiration comes from foreign trips, from diversities, from my attempt to understand how they raised, and to fill up, through photography, my human inability to get close to them.
It often happens to me, by looking back a photo years after I took it, to feel more closer to that reality than during the journey itself. It’s a sort of bond that I can generate only through a reflex.
My shoots verge to order, to minimalism, to calm, to reflection given by sight and therefore by mind, often soaked by a sense of melancholy and immutability of the subject through another dominant element: time.Black and white and long exposures are the approaches that mostly represent the shoots I figure in my mind. From them almost surreal imagines born, suspended through time, eternals, elegants.
My photography enclosed all of this:
the attempt to feed my soul with the deception that not everything changes by the touch of time.
